Reap What You Sow

Well, you sow some seeds of wheat say and the crop grows and you reap the crop which is of wheat, not some other grain.

If the seeds were good, the crop also will be good, all other conditions being equal. If the seeds were bad, the crop will also be bad.

If you planted neem seeds (neem tree is very useful but the fruits and seeds are very bitter), you can't expect mango trees to rise out of the soil. Good actions give good results, bad actions will give bad results.

Reap what you sow, lie in the bed that you made etc. are proverbs which have more or less a similar meaning that your today is the result of your yesterday and your tomorrow depends on what you do today. The theory of Karma is also a good example of the meaning of such proverbs.

It goes along the same lines as the saying, "You made your bed, now you must lie in it...." - just like "You reap what you sow" meaning if you have made a decision about something & acted upon & the outcome may of not been a good one or something bad happened because of something you did, then you have to deal with it & its consequences....

For example, you drink, then drive, you get pulled over & arrested for driving under the influence - you must now reap what you sowed - you must pay for your actions....

It means that you have to live with the results of your actions. A farmer sows (plants) seed, and reaps (harvests) the crop. Usually it's used in reference to wrongdoing. Like, if you abuse drugs, you may end up dead.

It usually is used to mean that if you spread (sow) discord and anger or tell lies then you will get back distrust, etc. Of course, it also means that if you are pleasant polite, you will be treated the same. It makes the parallel with gardening or farming, where if you sow wheat, you get wheat back when you reap the field.

it means that you pay the consequences for whatever path you choose in life. for example, if at the end of highschool, you have the choice to marry or to accept a great job which excludes your boyfriend, you take the job. years later, you are 40 and single and lonely. your choice was what you sowed. what you reap is the lonliness but, also the success you've acquired. however, what else you reap is no husband, no children. do you get it?
