i am also 38 weeks and i bought castor oil today because i want to induce before my doctor doesit. i havent tried it yet, im too scared to, i spent some time researching it after i bought it and as far as i can tell it will give you uterine contraction which is caused from prostaglandins being made because of bowl contractions. if its gonna work it will happen in a 6 hour period and then only if your cervix is ready/ripe. try combining it with something that will soften the cervix like SEX. if you have a history of fast labors i would probably avoid it ( thats why i havent tried it yet, my last labor was 1 hour & 20 mins) it takes quite a while for the body to expell the castor oil and the last thing you want ontop of labor contractions are bowl contractions and the runs. my sister tried it with her third and she had a 6 hour labor and only used gas and luckily everything was out before she started pushing. i was also told that the very strong BH contraction close to your due date can help to soften the cervix ( not dilate) so maybe now you have tried the castor oil start to do some other things now that could possibly bring it on. the last 2 days i have been doing pressure point massage on the spot between my thumb and forefinger and it has been making my boobs leak. so try a few things at once, i think the key is to find 1 thing that works on softening the cervix ( sex) and something that will work to give you contractions ( orgasm, accupressure, nipple stimulation.).good luck.

since this is not something they have done studies on i don't think there is an actual time line that is set up.
i have only had two friends try this and one went into labor only a couple hours after taking it(she took it at 38 weeks), the other did not go into labor until a week after her due date(she tired the caster oil at 39 weeks)
to be honest, i think it is just a coincidence when people say this works, i honestly think they would have gone into labor anyway.
good luck!!! it will happen soon, don't worry!!!!!

If it's going to work, it's pretty instantly, and more because your body is ready soon anyway. If you're just having the Braxton Hicks, it's probably not going to do it.
Make sure you drink LOTS of water, wait a few days and if you want to try again.
(Tell your Husband he has to make you Orgasm - that's the best way to get labor going, it stimulates contractions without giving you the runs!)
Good Luck! =)

I don't know anything about castor oil, but those braxton hicks could be the real thing. The beginning of labor doesn't hurt...this could be it.
You know, the doctor can induce if he/she thinks its necessary.

ummm mostly its a psychological effect. studies have been done showing it has no effect on induscing labor. also they have shown that it can induce the baby to have a bowel movemet before birth, whch can lead to a condition called meconium aspiration, which can lead to fetal distress and death.
but whatever you do try, if your body is not ready it wont work.
i would suggest evening primrose oil and sex instead of castor oil. open the EPO capsules and put that directly on your cervix, it will help soften the crvix and get it ready, then other things such as sex will have a better effect

When I took it I got a few contractions but then no baby for 1 week. My best friend took it and had a baby about 3 hours later(only just made it to the hospital)/ When my mum took it she had me about 8 hours later. Good luck :-)

Sounds like you're pretty uncomfortable. To my knowledge, semen will ripen the cervix. If you want to get labour going, have sex. This is what my doctor and the regional health authority class told us. I believe it is oxytocin in the semen which brings on the labour, but I may have that wrong, the oxytocin may occur when you climax and maybe only the semen ripens the cervix. Either way, sex is what does it.
Oxytocin is the stuff they put into an IV to get your labour going when they induce.
Perhaps you should talk to your doctor and see if you're a candidate for induction. If you're older, you would be. Older women are more likely to have stillborn children if they aren't induced about 2 weeks early, so obstetricians here actually recommend it. That is why I was induced.
Good luck,
Sarah

i never tried it but it is probably like any food it has to work thru your system.to get my labors started i just walked alot and my hubby and had alot of sex.if is causing diarr.that can cause cramps that i think is what irritates the stomach and cause contractions to start.i dont think it would take more than a couple of hours though.

you're being ridiculous, and have not have been given any concept of what is going on with the kinfolk cat inhabitants. "save lives do no longer spay?" How warped is that? because of the fact of persons such as you there are literally 1000's of cats dying in shelters! no count in case you suspect in abortion or no longer is yet another element, yet spaying a non-pregnant animal would not kill something - even though it actual saves means lives. in my view, i could have this cat spayed. you are able to think of your concern is astonishing, yet actually you're no diverse to all the those with pregnant cats who think of they have a appropriate to deliver extra kittens right into a international this is already bursting with undesirable ones. in case you have those kittens homed, they are going to be taking over properties that could have long previous to look after cats. for sure you are able to no longer save the kittens as you are able to no longer even have sufficient money to look after the only you have have been given. it won't fee $2 hundred to have the cat checked by employing a vet. it is going to fee extra like $40 (a seek for advice from cost) plus if she desires any meds, which turns right into a becoming style of probably the longer you pass away it. The cat must be on kitten nutrition by employing the way, extraordinarily for the period of lactation. in case you insist on protecting this cat and letting her have kittens, a minimum of straightforward procedures to look after her precise i.e. whilst to take to a vet. "pass away me on my own approximately it and close up as i won't exchange my techniques" impressive techniques-set, impressive. you are the worst element for the cat inhabitants, no question. Chalice
