i have a title page and my professor wants the page numbers to start at "2" on the second page of writing. so it would technically be page 3

open word twice so you can have two separate windows.
ok, for the pages that dont need page numbers, type them on a separate word document. for the pages that need page numbers, type them on a separate word document also. (so that the pages without pg numbers and the pages with pg numbers are separated). insert page numbers on the document where the page numbers are needed. just set the page number to start with the number 2

In Word, you can start with any number and stop numbering on the first page.
Insert, Page Numbers, check box for Show number on First Page. Then do button Format and find Start At.
Do this at beginning of document.
