You could use a really strong umbrella made from titanium that was on rollers with its own gasoline engine. That would make the rest of the world look silly then.

Why are the people who originate the phrases being silly.
It originally refers to rain being that heavy that animals that lived in the thatched roofs of old houses would try to find somewhere dryer on the ground, these animals seemed to come from the sky with the rain, hence the expression

Or think of the cats all claws and teeth but this actually originated in england in the 1600's because in england they used to have slanted tile roofing and cats and dogs used to use the roofs to get around but when it rained it made them slick so cats and dogs when traveling around would slide off the roofs so hence the saying!!! weird huh i had to do research on it for a college paper i could get more detailed but that is the basic. it was actually kinda neat though.

I have my umbrella reinforced with titanium steel rods. No Great Dane other than Hamlet is getting through that gizmo.

Very interesting point. Even if it were just raining really hard ( with just rain ) an umbrella is pretty useless.

I had a dream once about it raining cats and dogs and my step-daughter was outside with a laundry basket trying to catch a kitten.

If u think about it, chances r one of the dogs or cats r gunna try and attack u or sumting so an umbrella would be good for stabbing n knocking the **** out of them. though i gess it would be more apropriate to have a a good solid roof... n a base ball bat.

Neither. think of of roughly it, screaming animals or human beings falling screaming from the sky. loss of existence everywhere on impact. unfavorable factors and inflicting all forms of horror. Who will sparkling up the a lot of rotting corpses too?
