What was Jenny's purpose of encouraging Gump to write her, and yet she never writes him back? He, however, continues to write her thinking she will write back. I felt sorry for Gump and thought it was pretty mean of Jenny to do that to him. Maybe I misunderstand. What do others -- especially the women who saw the movie -- have to say? To all you women out there who saw Forrest Gump, would you have done what Jenny did to Gump if you were in her shoes?

I think that if someone really wants to correspond with someone else, then that person will find a way. I just didn't get the feeling that Jenny was interested, but maybe didn't want to outright reject Gump either. Maybe she was on the fence?

Jenny's father raped and abused her for her entire life, until he was finally imprisoned. This led Jenny to have SERIOUS mental issues, including believing that she didn't deserve to be loved. She knew that Forrest THOUGHT he loved her, but she didn't really think he did.

I've seen the movie many times and I don't actually remember her telling Forrest to write to her. He says he will but she doesn't respond.

Besides, with the Nomadic life she is living, the letters probably couldn't find their way to her.

You are SUPPOSED to feel sorry for Forrest -- he suffers from unrequited love until very near the end of the movie -- and then she dies!

Jenny was not able to turn her life around until she got pregnant. Then, having someone else totally depend on her, she was able to let go of the past and learn to love -- and to BE loved.

The entire movie was a Masterpiece, if you ask me.

She probably read the first few letters, but she joined in on the hippie movement and most likely never received the letters. Her circumstances changed and Jenny may have felt some resentment towards Forrest being in the Army. While traveling around the country she would have had no way to receive the letters, so do not be too hard on her. She made up for it later.

Haven't seen the movie in a little while, but if I recall she did not have a set address as she became a hippie and moved from one place to the other. Due to this most if not all of the letters from Forrest never even arrived and came back to Forrest as Return to Sender.

All of that goes back to the book. She and Forrest had something, but he was slow(in the book he was slower) After beeing abused by her father, she jump from one man to the next, and didn't leave an address. The only man who she ever knew really cared about her was Forrest, but she doesn't think she deserves someone who really cares about her, then she lost contact with him for many years.(Forrest was a lot different then Tom Hanks, he was 6'6" and over 300 pounds, which is how he beat up anyone who messed with her) After he got back from Africa? and his space mission, (yes the stories in the book were much more then the ones in the movie)she found him again.

maybe jenny just wanted to know if forrest is still there for her, regardless of what or where she's been. she doesn't read forrest's letters because she doesn't want to feel guilty about it so it would be better not to read ithem at all. besides, at first she just wanted forrest as a friend and not as a lover. but if i were jenny, i wouldn't do that to a friend :)

she didnt want to encourage his feelings for her to get the way they were heading. she believed that he would move on like her and get on with his life. he was only a friend. besides if you hadn't caught the scene where she prays to be able to turn into a bird and fly far away? in the cornfield? in his narration it brings up the fact that jenny and her sisters were repeatably sexually assaulted by their father. that has sever trauma and effects on most people.

I think she never wrote back because she never got the letters. She moved around a lot and her letters were never forwarded, and instead were "returned to sender".

The fact that she was high, might have played a role in her ability to read or understand anything from forrest.
