The term "Humankind" refers to beings that are capable of feeling compassion for other life forms. While “Mankind” will just emphasize on someone that shares our genetic material.

From what I understand, people started using the term "humankind" instead of "mankind" in order to avoid using the word "man" when the intended meaning is all people -- both men and women.
However, there seems to be a difference in connotation and usage.
"Humankind" tends to be used for "humanity" or "society" -- referring to the human race or human spirit collectively.
"Mankind" is usually used in the context with "intent" or "conscious" human knowledge or action, such as "man reaching the moon" or "the hand of man."
I prefer to use the word "humanity" since it is less awkward.
I also like the added element of "compassion" it implies.

I'd say that "humankind" represents an individualistic approach to life, while "mankind" represents a collective approach.
And since we are all ONE, and our planet is in a bit of trouble, it's probably in our best interests to start satisfying the needs of all mankind, instead of the individual egos within it (humankind).

mankind is a whole specie of a social animal while humankind are scarce. It is hard to become a human while being a man/woman comes naturally. Man/woman can be good or bad but humans are always good and kind to others...

Humankind suggests human nature, whereas mankind may not necessarily imply those high qualities which make humanbeings the greatest living species on Earth. This is my view.

Technically, none. In practice, 'mankind' implies not only all persons in the physical sense, but also the cultural and spiritual community of humanity. 'Humankind' tends to be more of a strictly literal term - i.e., humans as a species.

I prefer the word "humanity" as mankind is a sexist form of humankind which tends to separate our species from existence........

Only spelling difference.
Humankind is a man made name for mankind as they
believe human is a man of genus Homo and especially the speices H. sapiens.
(Scientific explanations r not solid as God has made only one kind of man)
When God started building mankind He made a man first..and woman was from the man..so she was called woman .So God didn´t make a new name human..as he began the mankind from a man.
But this word is good to use in singular in today´s world as it represents both man and woman becoz this world is giving so much distinction between man and woman and gave way to a new name feminism. Man is not aware that woman is his own flesh..and woman is not aware that she is his own part. (I wrote this for those men and women who blame each other )
