The polar diameter of the earth is 12,714 km. So the actual distance between the north and south pole is 12,714km. The meridional of the earth is 40,008 km (the circumference going around the poles). So, if you walked, you would walk at least 20,004 km from North to South pole.

Your best result is incorrect. (12,429.91 miles) The answer, as defined by the French creators of the metric system, would be 10,000,000 meters which is 6,213.71 miles. This is not exactly correct since the French surveyors made some errors in their original surveys.

6,000 miles if the earth is 12,000 mi from north - south pole and 24,000 all around then the half way pt from the north pole to the equater is 1/4 of 24,000 mi.
the earth spins at 1,000 mi/ hour that is why there is 24,000 hours in a day
