It could be because they are insecure. They may feel that they are not good enough to keep you and fear loosing you.
Another and more unfortunate reason a person may be overly possessive is that they are not faithful and fear that you may not be faithful. (like in the movie Spanglish with Adam Sandler, his wife was very suspicious of him with the maid because she was cheating with the real estate guy)
It is wrong for anyone to be possessive but also wrong to not care. If you are both communicating well and know that you love each other more than any thing else than that is all that should matter. Trust is the most important thing in keeping a relationship going. Without trust there can only be problems.
Good Luck Friend...

All are possessive. Women also are possessive. All people are possessive to a certain extent. Only saints and prophets will not be possessive. Will anybody allow their personal things to be used by unknown or even lesser known people.Nobody does it.

Not all men or husbands are possessive. Mine certainly isn't, I'm a very independent woman and he gives me totally control over what I do, where I go, who I talk to, etc. Men can only possess you if you let them.

Not of all of them.
Some husbands don't even seem to care and I wonder what question their wives they wanted to put here.
I think it goes for both gender. It depends on the personality of a person. But I guess being possessive all boils down to insecurity.

Secure men in a healthy relationship aren't possessive. It takes awhile to learn to be that way, though.

That's like asking "why are wives so possessive?"
It's not gender specific, nor can you make sweeping generalizations of a gender.
It sounds like your husband must be possessive, why don't you ask specific questions to that and maybe we can help?

Because they are afraid to lose a good wife like us. But they didn't understand that we need a little space for our selves, I mean time to develop ourselves as a woman like socializing, studying and the like. Because being a full time wife and a mother is not an easy task, so we need a little time for ourselves sometimes.

Mine isn't at all possessive, but insecure about how I feel about him, now that's something that he is now and then. Silly guy!
