What you're describing sounds like the movie COME SEPTEMBER starring Rock Hudson. Grant had a HOUSEBOAT in one movie and a villa in TO CATCH A THIEF.

Hi.I think it might be a movie called "Houseboat " co-starring Sofia Loren. A comedy made in 1958.about a widower (Grant) trying to raise 3 difficult children with the help of a nanny (Loren) on a houseboat in Italy.
