There was a video on yahoo from 60 minutes about scientists being able to make rats gay. I wanted to know the pros of gay rats.

Well obviously they didn't do it simply because they felt the world needs gay rats! Medical scientist use rats and mice for human medical reasearch. Obviously the reason for making the rat gay was to prove the cause of homosexuality... once they know the cause they can work to find the "cure". Proving that homosexuality occurrs due to hormonal imbalances during pregnancy means that they can work to keep the pregnant mothers hormones balanced so parents can avoid having their baby be born gay. Guranteed that this will be controversial amongs the gay community, most don't want to view homosexuality as a defect and they don't want it to be "cured".

I don't think there are any real pros or cons of homosexual rodents, except perhaps the fact that there would eventually be fewer of them. I believe the purpose of such an experiment would be to prove that sexual orientation can be directly influenced by whatever means these scientists used to "turn" the rats gay. That is, if it was hormones that made the rats prefer the same gender sexually, we can assume then that the presence of like hormones in human beings may influence sexual orientation -- possibly proving that sexuality is not a choice, but rather the result of hormonal balances within each and every individual. Or something like that.

The "pros" of making rats gay?

Interesting way to look at it... since to me, tampering with nature and creating "misfits" through science is more of a "con"... as the ancient adage goes, "anything grafted from "original" is "devil"."

Anywho, that's another subject.

I think the only "pro" could be that this scientific finding is confirming what practitioners/physicians and free thinkers of Natural Medicine have been saying all along.

Long before this research began, "homosexuality" has been known to be "corrected" (some might say "cured") by a few well known Natural Physicians of Orthomolecular Medicine.

They have shown that through teaching one to subsume the principles of holistic living, through a simple change of diet- incorporating "whole foods" of organic fruits, vegetables and grains along with fasting, while excluding hormonal/experimental meats- as well as the addition of other elements like zinc and/or copper, will allow a man or woman to begin to feel and be themselves again. (i.e. no more confusion about a "man" trapped in a woman's body)

In addition, to explain higher levels of homosexual populations in certain parts of the country, it has been theororized that for those who live in places such as California where DDT, PCBs and other "xeno-estrogen" chemicals known to create "hormone imbalances" have laced the air, soil, water and other food sources, there are higher incidences of homosexual activity.

Which leads one to wonder if, once again, there is a deliberate tampering of the crops in these areas for experimental purposes (i.e. human "rats")...?

For the free thinker such as myself, one might ask:
"Could these "scientific findings" of how to "turn rats gay" be a subtle way of admission that another "Tuskegee Experiment," or "Gay Hepatitis Study" (See Vaccine Biowarfare below), has been unleashed upon the "dumbed down", sleeping population, once again???"

Well...
That's another story of "things that make you go "hmmm"."
Thanks for the question.

Some of these answers are funny and some are stupid. As I told you in zoology, the " pros " are that we now have quantifiable data on hormones ( female, I presume ) that is of inestimable value. Rats are a good analog for human reaction to hormone mediation.

if rats are turned to gay..(preposterous!!)
then i think we are in pursuit of turning another species species extinct....
or
evolution is such an amazing thing that the rats might start reproducing without help from their mates... so if they r successful like many reptiles who are able to change their sex to reproduce ... then the rat population might explode beyond control,,,
i personlly think such ideas must be prevented from implication unless they are sure of no long term damage.

Well, gay rats know how to shop so of course corporations are interested in them as new consumers.

If all rats could be made gay, they would no longer reproduce, and very soon there would be no more rats.

How do they know they turned them gay? Did the rats put on tube tops and run around with sparklers singing "Y.M.C.A"?
