It's both my friend. Life is a circle. We start off as helpless babies and If we are lucky enough to become old, we become helpless babies again. Round and round we go!

Right now we know scientifically that the material formation of the human does not manifest until the sperm enters the ovary. Science calls that life. Any speculation as to whether or not a creature had existence before that can not be resolved by science but by the patient and tolerant acceptance of possible theories where some level of pragmatism demonstrates a more congenial manner of relating to otherwise non-scientifically demonstrative phenomenon.

Neither. Death is simply the cessation of life, it is not a byproduct. Life does not contribute in any way to death and is therefore not a byproduct either.

Death is a byproduct of life. It is the end result... living eventually causes death. Death doesn't cause anything; once you're dead you're dead. If everyone and everything on Earth was dead, there couldn't be anymore life after that, because there would be nothing there to cause it. Life is what causes more life! But, it also causes death. So, death would be the byproduct.

Neither is a byproduct of the other. First there was nothing; then there was life as a spirit. The spirit, with the help of a teacher, designed a lesson plan (genes, family / groups, etc.), and entered a physical body. When the lessons were learned, the physical body died and the spirit re-entered the spirit world. The spirit designed the next set of lessons—another physical life—and was 'born again'...and on and on and on. ♪♫ ♪♫
