I have been around many walmarts and most of them who carry betta's cant take care of them properly!! Some cups have clean water, other has filthy debris, and some look oxidized from uneaten food!!! And the Betta's who are in the big tanks with the other fishes are crowded up! I see Betta's constantly in a corner panting ,thier gills are inflamed and moving real fast with,like,20 other fishes swimming around it!Everytime i look at these things it gets me real depressed because I love those fishes and i hate seeing them this way.Not to mention most of the people in walmart who work at the pet section are either never there or have a real big friggin attitude! Have you experienced this? I know it's ''only'' a fish but please it has a life and a soul not to mention it's beautiful so dont you hate to see it this way??

I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! I cannot stand this. The poor bettas from Wal-Mart are either in an inch of nasty water in those little cups or being torn apart by other fish in the tanks. Half of them end up dying on she shelves. What kind of a life is that and how on earth can Wal-Mart get away with it? Everytime I go to Wal-Mart I buy every betta they have, whether it's a few or 30. I feel so bad leaving them behind. My room is full of them. I love bettas so much. I've been breeding them for about a year now. I don't breed mutt bettas though, I buy quality ones from bettatalk.com. It absolutely kills me to see all those poor fish suffering. It makes me want to pull my friggin hair out. I'm so glad to know that other people feel the same way I do.

WAL-MART SUCKS @SS AT TAKING CARE OF OF THEIR FISH!!! BOYCOTT!!! BOYCOTT!!!

I guess it's just where you live. The wal-marts I live by, both at home and at school, the fish a very well cared for.

As for the bettae, I'm not too worried about them. They're tough little creatures, and in the wild... the habitat is a little murky. Plus the fact that they stay in those containers for only a day or two before they get sold.

I've had great success with the fish I get at Wal-mart. I have a fantail, goldfish, shubunkin, and minnows, all bought there and in great health. Might I add they are in a five gallon tank and perfectly happy.

As for that petition... it's probably not going to happen because Wal-mart is one of the largest companies in the world and will buy their way out of the court system. Sorry. It's the truth. Plus, even if that petition goes through, now you have destroyed the businesses in the three world countries that catch and sell the bettae. You've just put thousands of people out on the streets with no job anymore. Good job. I hope you feel like you accomplished something.

If I used to be you I could pass to love Petco or a few wherein different then walmart I purchased a few my Betta's from walmart after they simply obtained them in in order that means I knew they wherein healthful my sister used to be operating there on the time so she instructed after they got here in I have additionally purchased Betta's from walmart that I proposal used to be very beautiful however wherein death so I might store there reside now in these days I have five Betta's and 2 crown-tails of mine simply had infants to I could have approximately forty- 50 extra Betta's. It is certainly not a well concept to get every other fish from walmart motive if one fish has a illness all fish in there'll for the reality the entire factor stocks the equal water additionally certainly not purchase a fish while you see lifeless ones in there too for the truth that it died from anything and when you positioned it to your tank at residence it'll die additionally and kill your fish. pass to Petco they blank there tanks extra then every other situation I were to. They actually have a 30 day assurance its what I do and I have plenty of healthful fish. I am going to shop for extra fish in these days.

It's not just walmart. I have seen some pet stores keep them in them little containers, and not in very good condition. Where they do not look to health. I for one, am glad walmart does carry fish in my area Or i wouldn't be able to afford to own my wonderful fish friends. I have brought fish at walmart and at pet stores and they are all doing great. Yes i totally agree!I have a btta now and he is my baby!Every time i go to walmart i like to browse around and look at the fish they have there.they're tanks are WAY to overcrowded!the employees have no idea how to handle fish either!the bettas are beautiful creatures and it breaks my heart to see them like that.i just want to take them all home and help them.it's animal cruelty, even though it's just a fish.the last time i was in walmart there was a family getting some fish and they got a goldfish,a shark, a betta,a guppy, and a pleco!and the person put them in the same bag with about enough water in it to cover the bottom of the bag.not to mention, they all need different temperatures in the tank!and the employee didnt even say"i hope your not planning to put these in the same tank" just"thanks for buying"but then the fish die the next morning from either overheating or freezing!the betta fish there are in horrible condition and they always look like they are sick.one time i even saw a male betta whos tail was so short due to fin rot that it looked like a female!i mean, cmon thats pretty bad.walmart definitely needs to stop selling fish or have people specially trained to handle and care for the fish properly.
it helps to see that someone else has noticed this!
thanks for your time!

Yes! It's not just Wal-Mart either. It hurts me when I see those beautiful bettas in tiny little containers no bigger than a 16 oz. cup so small they can't even turn around. They must be so bored and depressed. I want to just buy them all and set them free in decent sized tanks, but I don't have the money or the room and I don't want to support the places that do that to the fish, either. It's heartbreaking.

Very, very common in many Walmart stores. Carry a proper betta care sheet with you when you travel. If you see this problem point it out the the store manager and offer a copy of the sheet and ask that the pet department manager see to the fishes needs properly. Done in a caring and reasonable manner many will listen to you.

I have more bettas than I really have room for right now thanks to bettas rescues. (to the point that my boyfriend even has two, my best friend has one and my sister has one ^__^; ) btw, they'er all well cared for, I just don't have any flat surfaces that aren't covered in tanks.

I agree with MM, except I go about it in a much less adult way. unfortunately the general consensus is that I look like a 13yr old (I'm not!). so if I were to present them with a proper care sheet and suggest they take better care of their fish they would laugh at me. how do I know? well I tried before. instead, I've printed out my own fact sheet and care sheets, when I see their sheets up I tear them up and replace them with mine. I also bring a pen and a post its, then when i see a sick betta I add the correct meds to it's water and leave a note saynig "I have *insert disease here*, please buy *insert meds here* when you buy me!" or on the really dirty cups I leave notes saying "CLEAN ME!"

in the two walmarts I got to I've noticed a dramatic improvement. and they actually took down a whole display of vases that had instructions on how they're great for bettas. I found them in a flower isle a day after I complained and left huge signs saying how it was animal cruelty.

I know!

They take horrible care of their fish!

It's not "just a fish"... It's a living thing and deserves proper care.

P.S. I'm sorry Kylie Anne! I gave you a thumbs down instead of a thumbs up! Good job with the Bettas.

most wal-marts if not all are deleting the fish department,
my friend who works at wal-mart was complaining about no one caring properly for the fish,
its not just the betta fish who are suffering it others as well.
