well it didn't HAVE to be conceived the most recent time you had sex. did you have sex 8 or 9 weeks ago? sperm can live 3-5 days in a fertile environment.
good luck

Have a DNA test done to find out for sure, but the fact that the doctor is telling her she is 8 weeks doesnt mean anything.. The way a pregnancy is calculated 2 weeks are added on straight from the beginning.. I will give you the same example I gave my husband.. When we found out I was pregnant we knew for sure I was 4 weeks from conception.. When I went to the doctor I was told I was 6 weeks. The 2 weeks that were between my menstrual and the day I concieved were being counted as well.. I understood, but my husband was still confused.. So I broke it down even further.. Doctors go by the first day of the last menstrual period to start counting the beginning of the pregnancy. There is approx. 2 weeks between menstration and ovulation.. Those 2 weeks are what is being added to the pregnancy. So yes even though she knows she is 6 weeks conception she is actually 8 weeks gestation.. I do hope I didnt confuse you any further then what you already seem to be.. If so then talk to the doctor if you are willing to go to a visit with her, and have him/her explain it to you.. It may sound different when it is being said aloud. Best of Luck and Congratulations.....

The answer to your question is that at this point, it is impossible to tell EXACTLY when the baby was conceived. The doctor has to 'guesstimate' based on the last day of her last menstrual period.
Additionally, it doesn't matter about the intercourse six weeks ago; the question is did you have sex with her before that, in time to create a pregnancy at any time within the last 2-3 months.
These things aren't always precise. The only way to tell for sure is to conduct a paternity test after the baby is born.
Sorry.

Doctors date pregnancy by first day of last period. If you had sex with your girlfriend and she was ovulating at the normal time, (2 weeks after her last period) then an 8 week gestation embryo would have been conceived 6 weeks ago. Gestation age refers to the time elapsed since the mothers first day of her last menstrual period (lmp). Typically this is two or more weeks earlier than the time of actual fertilization. in other words, if a woman had her period 8 weeks ago and then conceives 6 weeks ago, the gestation age of the developing embryo is 8 weeks; the fertilization age is only 6weeks. The gestational age is the one traditionally used by medical providers to date pregnancy. It sounds like it is right on that its your kid based on dates alone. However only a DNA test after he or she is born will tell you for sure.

You had sex six weeks ago, which means the gestational age would be EIGHT weeks.
You see, not many women know the date of conception, but most know the day of their last period. Doctors actually measure gestational age from the last period, NOT conception.
So, if you had sex with her six weeks ago,and the doctor says the baby is measuring at 8 weeks, it's dead on!
Congratulations, Daddy :)
Your pregnancy is determined from the date of last menstral period, not date of conception. Each pregnancy, expectant mother, and unborn child is different. Your pregnancy may not progress the same as the information found here. The information here is based on the average pregnancy. It is not meant to be a replacement for any advice your may recieve from your doctor. If you have any concerns about your pregnancy, we advise you to contact your doctor.

It is probably yours, they add two extra weeks into the "size of the baby" they date it from the first day of her last period, which was likely 8 weeks ago, or two weeks before you slept with her, that is more than likely the confusion, but you can always get a dna test after the baby is born if you are worried.

It depends on how the doctor arrived at that conclusion.
If he's going by measuring the size of her uterus, the fundal height corresponds to gestational age, +/- 2 weeks. So it could be yours.
If they did an ultrasound and actually measured the fetus, a discrepancy of two weeks is less likely (although not unheard of).
Oh, and if he's just guessing by the date of her last period, then yes: they count you as "pregnant" for an extra two weeks, so the timing in that case would be perfect.

Every baby develops differently, even prior to birth! 2 weeks difference is really not that much. I would definately suggest a DNA test once the baby is born if you have doubts. Unfortunately it can happen that men fall in love with a baby they think is thiers and after some time it is discovered the child is not thiers at all...

yes...eight weeks includes the first day she had her last period...which if you think about it the average cycle is 28 days long and can only conceive on day 14 (again average)...so there for she got pregnant 6 weeks ago but the doctors are going to be 2 weeks a head of that so to them it's 8 weeks...Make sense???
the average pregnancy lasts 40 weeks but because they include the first day of the woman's last menstrual cycle it's really only 38 weeks
