That's got to be the most idiotic bunch of crap I heard in a while.
The school shouldn't be able to deny the diploma from a student because his or her family is proud of their accomplishments.
And the fact that the white families had no problem when they cheered for their graduates speaks volumes in the situation.
What really irritated me was that the students have to do community service to get the diplomas as if the family cheering is some how a crime the students committed.

No. Diploma's can be forged. You should request a transcript from the school you graduated from to be sent to the college. Often the first three or four are free, but there is a small charge after that, per transcript. The college probably also wants your grades and to see what courses you took. Usually knowing you graduated isn't enough.

The students still graduate; they still get credit for their work. So it's not a problem when it comes to getting a job or applying for college.
Furthermore, they can appeal the decision or do a little community service, and even get the fancy "diploma" to hang on the wall.
It sounds to me like the administration has done a good job of improving civility at the graduation ceremony; and within a few more years, people may learn to behave decently at one.

I think its sad that the school admin sit so high and follow MS Manners etiquette of commencement. Each graduate may have overcome many struggles, adversity and potentially losses and they should have slowed down the ceremony. I think its sad, but if that is the biggest problem and highest priority for that school, they are leaps and bounds above other public schools. Freedom Of Speech

That is so lame...
It wasn't the students fault that the crowd cheered and yelled.
If this is what is important to the school system, they are in trouble...they should care more about the students education than a couple of people yelling at graduation.

I have noticed that there are a lot of noisy individuals out there.
They should not be allowed on School Property. Graduation is serious and should be quiet.
It is the school's responsibility to prevent noisy looking profiled ones from coming on to School Property.

I have heard the story on the news. I felt immediately an impression of an authority figure who has used the moment ; your moment to gratify his own need to speak beyond you. to send his message to others, was that wrong of him to use you in this way. Yes, because he has not been able to speak to that audience beyond his control. He wants a commanding position within his assumed authority over the audience, an emotional blackmailer on the surface.

The graduation ceremony is not the place to prove something. They should have already completed the work required to earn it and they deserve it regardless. That town sucks dude, move as soon as possible.

Okay, it is pretty sad that a principal has to make parents sign a contract stating that they won't act like morons...
What's even worse is when parents, who signed the stupid contract, ACT LIKE MORONS...
I'm sorry, but they get what they get. How rude and selfish was it for those parents to drown out the names of other graduates so that they could "hoot and holla" (sic) for their own children?!? Kudos to the administration for standing firm on this one...
