Imagine a watermelon going thru a garden hose. I have heard it compared to passing a kidney stone.

It is painful there is no doubt. It feels as if your uterus is so tightly compacting that it is actually going to explode. If you have back labor as well you have the contractions above your pubic bone and at the same time your lower back does the same thing. I delivered the first naturally with nothing but ice chips and had back labor as well. It took 2 hours to push her out and I had been told by friends and family that pushing relieved the pain and they lied. Pushing was worse than the labor.
Now don't lose hope. With my son I did labor until it got to the point that I couldn't really talk during the contractions and then I had an epidural. I had painless contractions, I felt them but they didn't hurt. I was pain free so it only took 15 minutes to push him out and enjoyed my delivery.
If there is another baby for us I would definitely do the epidural again. Having a natural (full of pain) childbirth doesn't make you a real woman, being the best mother you can be for the rest of your life does.
Good luck and do what you need to do to enjoy this whole process it is truly your miracle............

Well i have never broken any bones so i don't know what that feels like. A headache dosen't even compare to labor. Pms pain is nothing compared to having a baby. I was in labor for i guess 6 hours and then was taken to the OR for a c-section. A c-section hurts like hell. You are so sore and in alot of pain for like 2-3 weeks and i bleed for 6 weeks after. Being in labor and having a csection is worse that anything i would think. It is very painful and most pain meds will not help it while it is going on

For me, it was like the worse period cramps ever. It hurt but it was doable (I was in labor for 18 hours and did it naturally).
The good thing about it was that there was no time to be afraid because you're too busy dealing with the contractions.
Pushing the baby out is a lot of work but isn't as bad as the contractions. The transition part was hard because I was nauseated and kept throwing up (and I hate vomiting more than anything!).
If you need something for pain, get it. There's no right or wrong way to have a baby. The important thing is to get through it so that you can enjoy your beautiful new baby.

yes. it feels like the worse menstral cramps that you could possibly ever have and along with that like the worst diahrrea and nothing you do is gonna stop it from coming out (kind of like that when you gotta go, you gotta go! feeling lol) so just imagine both of those feelings at once going on for many hours just intesifying. thats the best way I can explain it. Oh! unless you have back labor then its the two I mentioned above with severe back pain. But keep in mind everyone is different and so is labor you may not feel much or you may feel a little or you may feel a lot. Oh and when the baby comes out its a burning feeling from the stretching but (usually) and i stress usually it is very quick at that point but for some women that part can take a while to it all depends. Oh and one final thing, some women feel nothing at all because they have or are scheduled a c- section. thats about it. hope this helps

It is not that bad... I have had 2 kids and didn't use any painkliller and I survived....if it was that bad there would be lots of families with only 1 child!
Yes it does hurt...the contractions are like severe menstural cramps (but not all of them) and when you are pushing the baby out, you'll feel alot of pressure and some burning as your vagina streatches to accomidate the baby, but it is such a wonderful feeling when its all over and you see your baby!
watch some of the TLC showa and you can see real live birth s happen and how the women on the sdhow manage, some get pain killers and some go without, but they all do beautifully in helping with this miracle!

It's like having shingles (what you get after chickenpox if you're not lucky) except the pain involved with having a baby is all localized to between your boobs and butt, not all over. Also, someone told me it's like passing a large kidney stone.
Sorry. It hurts, sign the epidural paperwork the heartbeat you walk through the doors of your friendly hospital. The nursing staff will love your for it. (The pain hurts so bad that no matter how sweet you are normally, you will become the bride of Satan, only worse.)

I've always likened going into labor like having severe food poisoning. There's the vomitting, the severe cramps that make your eyes roll back in your head, and there's the feeling like you've got to keep pooping. It's different for everyone, but for me, it's hard to tell labor from a bad chinese dinner. LOL As for the pushing, there's a point where the baby's head is starting to emerge from the vagina and it literally feels like someone stuck their hands in there and is pulling both sides apart as hard as they can and it burns, but the moment the head completely pops out it's an undescribable end to all the pain.....you hardly notice birthing the rest of the body!

Every single woman tolerates pain differently and also every labor and birth experience is different. I had back labor only, it was a cramp in my back but when I would sit up it went away, and then I only had a tightness in my stomach they came and went every minute. No pain in stomach or vaginal area just after 9 hrs it was very tiring. Then there are some women that have severe pain in their stomachs and vagina's. Just stay in good shape, walking and swimming is the best help with easy labor. Don't let anyone scare you with their horror stories of birthing. Not everyone has bad labor.

If you have menstral cramps it is similar to that, but it is magnified by several hundred times.
If you are a man, there is nothing to compare it to. I don't mean that in a sexist way, there just really isn't anything.
I guess the closest would be like severe food poisoning, but once you get to the end stages of labor you have the severe cramping and the tearing pressure sensation of the passage of the baby's head through the vagina.

To be honest with you, giving birth is the worst pain imaginable. I guess it feels like stretching your bottom lip over your head. But don't let this scare you to the point of not having kids, they are the most wonderful gifts in the world. As soon as you look into your baby's eyes you'll know that it was all worth it. Trust me. Good luck! :)
