Ours went out last night for over 5 hours and I thought I'd go nuts.

I always lite some candles, have a flash light in hand.
Sit on the couch, and stare off at the TV. ha ha
I do what I can to not fall asleep, because of the burning candles.
I really hate being in the dark, esp when I didn't chose to be.
So I get a little freaky about it. ESP at night.
My husband usually sleeps right thru it, seems like it always happens at night and I am a night Owl.

I always listen to the radio when the power goes out at night... I keep a Grundig Yacht Boy 400 in my room with fresh batteries. Either that or just go to bed early with my girlfriend and enjoy the quiet... for awhile.

First of all, I call the power company to report it.
I live in Florida, so between hurricanes and bad thunderstorms, when the power might go off, I always keep alot of candles and batteries on hand for flashlights, little lamps, portable TVs, radios and portable fans.

If it is not too late, we get in the car and go to a relatives house or to the mall shopping. If it is late at night, we light candles, get out the flashlights, all pile up on the couch, eat snacks and visit with each other.

I have a lantern that will last for days on in. I have two small 12volt batteries I took out of a wrecked scooter and use them to power my little 12volt TV radio. I have portable DVD player and portable high powered AM/FM player. And I have wide up flashlights.

Spend the entire time looking for lighters and candles only to have the lights come on the second I light a candle.
