Ok i have cable internet on three computers and one is a wireless laptop. anyway the second computer and wireless work fine on the cable net just perfect. but when someone gets on the main computer the one that has the cable modom installed on it. everytime that computer makes the cable speed go down to dial up then the internet goes dead. killing the internet on all 3 computers

meaning it wont pull pages no internet connection. i mean this as soon as anyone uses the main computer with the cable modom on it it kills the connection. i can reboot and unplug the modom and router and all. and the connection will come back working again. but as soon as someone uses the main computer to surf the net bam connection goes dead again...

yes i have called my internet service provider. yes
i always follow the steps of unplugn the modom and router yes. but like i said with in minutes of doing this if someone
uses the main computer the connection will go dead again. no internet.

My internet service provider is clueless and said they dunno
does anyone know what it might be. and can help me fix this
and no im not calling in someone to come to my house and mess with it thats why im asking you if theres a simple way to fix this. perhaps something is not set right any clues?

There are too many possible causes to go into in this small space. Best advice is to get a reliable tech to dig into your main computer.

Ok, Im a bit confused, but lets see if I can help anyways. In the jumble of words above you say you have a cable modem, a router and 3 computers.

Since you only mention that the laptop is wireless im going to assume you have the two desktops wired.

I think you have the wiring messed up, atleast from what I can decipher. This is how you should connect everything.

-Cable from the wall to your Cable Modem
-Ethernet from the cable modem to the Routers WAN (Internet) Port
-Ethernet Cable from the routers #1 Ethernet Port to computer #1 Ethernet Port
-Ethernet Cable from the routers #2 Ethernet Port to computer #2 Ethernet Port

You will then need to setup the router to connect to your ISP so you can share the internet to all computers on your network. Follow the install guide that came with your router and it should be no problem.

Uninstall any software on desktop you called your main computer that was used to connect to your ISP. The router will take care of that, you will need to do nothing to connect to the web except open a browser on any of your computers.

Make sure the cable modem is hooked up to the router, not the computer. Then all the computers and other wireless devises go through the router via the wan and lan hookups to access the internet and each other.

In other words, don't hook up the main computer via the usb cable to the modem, use an ethernet cable to the router, so that all internet traffic has to go through the router then to the modem.

Hope this helps.
If not, I would check the router manufacturer's website and/or customer service rep.

I'm assuming you attempted setting up a internet deal with considering should you do not need a dwelling web page set it wont exhibit some thing. Considering your can get on-line together with your pc however now not your computing device there have to were a atmosphere modified. Just begin going regardless that your entire settings and replacing those you could have too. Worse feasible crisis is you community card is dangerous and you are going to ought to purchase a brand new one
