Tampons or no swimming.

Bring along tampons and go to the bathroom after two hours. Change your tampon, see how heavy the flow is. If you don't have much on the tampon, next time wait three hours. Etc.

I would wear a "heavy flow" tampon and visit the bathroom periodically to make sure of no leakage & to insert a new tampon.

Take an Aleve for the cramps and you should be good to go!

You could try using a tampon but make sure that you change it frequently to avoid infection. Have fun swimming. Its cold over here!
