Normally they are cranky and they will have 1 red ear and they will pull or touch the ear that hurts and that side will be feverish. Also if you take ear temps at home, one will be significantly higher than the other one.

I suppose this wouldn't be the norm but my babies didn't do a whole lot of ear tugging or even crying. I noticed from holding them that their bodies were too warm. They were running fevers. I always had a thermometer that reveal their temp. Time to head for the doctor's office and an ear infection was diagnosed.
When they were school aged they did feel pain from ear infections but they showed no signs of pain when they were babies.

Sometimes it's really hard to know. Generally the signs are irritability, pulling or scratching at the ear, fever, and crying excessively when you lay him/her in bed or to change a diaper. Both times my son had an ear infection, he never once pulled on his ear. Now he has discovered his ears and pulls on them all the time, but doesn't have an infection! I would say, if your baby is running a fever take him in to check his ears. Good luck!

Look for signs of discomfort such and crying while she is pulling on her ear. Also, excessive ear wax can be a bad sign.
See a doctor. Babys cant talk, if you think theres a problem, you know them better than anyone else.

How old? Babies are often cranky and can repeatedly touch or pull on their ears to indicate an ear infection.

The best tell tell is they pull on there ear, or if they are younger they will act like it itches. Like they are trying to scratch it. Before my daughter could grasp things like her ear, she would rub and hit at her ear like she had an itch. Plus they are crabby

your baby will probably cry more, especially after a bath, and the baby will probably be pulling at his/her ear or thouching it. you can try looking at it with a flashlight to see if its red inside
