When they wear a short sleeve shirt all the time and tan only from where the shirt stops, down the rest of the arm. When they take their shirt off, they look like they have a white shirt on. It's cause they are usually always out on the farm!!!

A "farmer's tan" is a specific type of tan line. The farmer's tan is usually started with a sunburn covering only the arms and neck. The farmer's tan is distinct in that the shoulders and back remain unaffected by the sun. Similar tan lines include the Texas tan or trailer tan, which is extremely similar, with the exception that the shoulders are also affected by the sun. The Texas tan or trailer tan is caused by working in the sun while wearing a muscle shirt or an A-shirt.

A "trucker's tan" is a variation of the farmer's tan where one arm from the sleeve downward is tanned significantly more than the other arm due to driving with the windows down. While named a "trucker's tan," such a tan line is not exclusive to truck drivers and can be attained by driving most motor vehicles. An "inverted trucker's tan" is when the passenger in a vehicle has similar tan lines as a trucker's tan, but on the opposite arm.

A farmer's tan happens when someone, historically farmers, are out in the sun with their shirts on for a long period of time and develop tans on their forearms and neck. Believe it or not, this is also how the term "redneck" was coined. It did not originally mean a good ole boy. So the next time you see someone at the pool or on the beach who have a white belly, chest and back with very tan forearms and neck, you will know that you have just witnessed a farmer's tan.

From what I know, it's a tan where about 3/4's of your arm is tan, but the top 1/4 including the shoulders are still pale. Like a tan you would get wearing a t-shirt.

Well it use to be known as the working mans tan. The kind they got from riding a tractor all day and working in the Field. Now the Farmer can hardly stand a chance in Hell to survive.
That's why the Goverment needs to get off their Greedy asses and let the Farmer plant Marijuana. But they couldn't make a profit off the bust then. I'm getting in another subject now.Sorry.

The face, ears, neck, forearms and halfway up the biceps and the hands are tan. Everything else white as can be for us white folk. By the way, the forehead in most cases has a tan line too from the hat they wear. And you can always tell if they wear a watch too because they have a area on their wrist that is not tanned.

It's a tan you get when you're working out in the sun all day everyday with a short sleeve shirt on and you only get tanned up to where your sleeves go and you neck and face.

That is a tan where people have a tan or a sunburn where the tee-shirt is not covering. Example, the whole bottom of someone's arm is red and the top is their original color.

Means tan on forarms and neck, but no where else, like a farmer would have, because they always wear shirts and pants.
