I don't!
I love this type of person. "Still waters run deep." There are not enough of this type of persons in the world.
I am fairly outgoing, and I like to make people laugh, and generally enjoy myself (talk to strangers in the post office, the bank, etc.) I don't think I'm obnoxious (but people like me never know, do we?) but like to be friendly.
I married a person who is much more reserved than myself and it's been sort of an interesting social experiment through the years. I am the one who generally makes the social plans, bringing more friends into our relationship because I have a more outgoing personality; however, I don't kid myself that it is HE who keeps the most interesting ones interested. He is truly so much smarter and funnier than me (although people usually think of me as the "fun one" at first) and it is very interesting to watch people get to know him. He's definitely a person of more depth, and he is a "quiet and reserved" type until you know him.

I think it has more to do with the idea of never knowing what they're thinking. Since they don't really talk or give off emotion, quiet and reserved people become very hard to read and understand. It can frustrate people. Also, people sometime wonder if there's a reason behind the quietness, like, oh, are they judging me or something? This also puts people on the defensive. It's cool to be quiet and reserved, but open up a little more and people will probably understand you more! I've never really had this problem. I'm loud, obnoxious, and a total open book!

People assume this because they don't know what the person is thinking, so they could be thinking anything or nothing. People are afraid of the unknown and trying to selfishly protect themselves without taking a risk and finding out what's really going on.
This behavior probably stems from long ago when "evil" surrounded communities on an everyday basis.

It doesn't fit into the lifestyle that everyone is portraying now-a-days. I mean, we, as most, try our damnedest to be unique, to stand out, to be the first one with no chance of being a poser. Then someone who figures that they will just try to be themselves, ultimately stands out more than everyone. They decide that the quiet solitude of listening to their own thoughts would appeal more in the long run. However, those that are still screaming at the world, can't believe that there would be someone who doesn't want the center of attention. So they are labeled weird, and obviously without a clue. In reality, the only ones who can truly find themselves, are those who sit and listen.

Because they don't know what the person is thinking. People always wonder things about me because I'm quiet and reserved and they don't know any of my business.

No, but loud annoying people may assume that because they are different from them. I tend to be quiet and reserved.

People seem to feel it's an aberration of some kind. I've never understood it myself. Being reserved and quiet does not equal depression or social indifference.

I dont assume much, when i do I assume that they dont like me or care for what I have to offer them as a friend ot hum being but other than that I dont assume much... people do what they need to do to feel better aboout themselves... People need not worry what others think as long as that person is happy.
