Okay I was with my friend and she shoplifted, I didn't take anything but she did. They banned my friend and ME from the mall, the movie theatre and any of the stores and restaurants in the same general area for a year, and I didn't even do anything. The only thing I had in my purse was used make-up and a brush and a cell, that were all obviously used and from at least a month ago and apparently I stole that. Half of the make-up was almost gone! and the other half was obviously used. The cell had dents and the brush had hair in it! So they banned us for a year? And even though my friend stole something, from the surrounding area too? That's a little unreasonable, I mean there is a lot in the surrounding area that isn't even part of the mall. And we're under 16 and canadian if that matters. But was it really necessary to ban ME from the mall and surrounding area because of my used make-up?

I think it is fair, they dont know if you were the one who told the other girl to steal or not, and even though you say that you didnt steal nobody on here knows if you did or not so we cant really take your side. If you knew that your so called friend was going to steal you should have told her not to, or told the store associates what was about to happen. Im sure your friend wouldve been mad at you but you would still be allowed in the mall. It doesnt matter how old you are or where you are the rules are all the same, if you are with someone who does a crime, and stealing is a crime, you pay the price just like they do, it doesnt matter if you had no idea that it was happening. Maybe you should use this experience to your advantage to help you choose better friends.
God bless and good luck!

Even though you didn't steal anything doesn't mean you weren't with her when she did. It's like being in the wrong place at the wrong time. To people it looks like you saw her and didn't say anything therefore are as guilty as she. You shouldn't hang out with those people because thankfully this wasn't something worse. Next time you could end up in jail for a year and not just be banned from a mall. Instead of dwelling on how unfair it was you should be thankful it wasn't more severe.

You are banned because you are a threat to their security. They don't want to overload their security by allowing shoplifters or their known friends into the general population. You say she is your friend, although she shoplifts. You are young, under 16 years of age. You should think more of your life, than being banned from a shopping mall. Suppose your friend did have heroin, and you were facing a five year prison sentence, or until you are of legal age.
I would be a lot more worried about the type of "friends" I have, instead of being banned. It is a warning. Many, many things are written in life about these few young years you have, and you haven't yet woken to the fact you cannot expose yourself to people whom break the law. You didn't know, and now you do.

They aren't banning you because they think the stuff in your purse was stolen!!! They are banning you because you didn't turn your friend in when you knew that she shoplifted. Next time, do the right thing, and you will be rewarded. Stealing/shoplifting is wrong, so don't do it, and don't let others get away with it. Even if they're your best friend, it WILL help them to get caught. Because if they aren't caught, they're gonna keep stealing and soon enough the things they steal will be worth tons, and that means a much longer jail/juvie sentence.

Yes, it's the law. That's why I would be extremely mad if someone shoplifted while they were with me, because you can get in trouble too. You're considered an accomplice, and you're actually very lucky that you didn't get charged with the crime. You got off easy by just getting banned.
Is it fair? Of course not, but they can't really take any chances. For all they know, you could have been her look out. But since they don't know, they have to play it safe.

Did you know that she was shoplifting? If you did and did not do anything, you might as well have done it too. At the same time you are not responsible for your friends actions, you are responsible for who you hang out with.
You should talk to your parents. The situation could have been much worse. the mall could have called the police.
Good luck.

Fair? I don't know. But if you drive yoyr friend to the bank to deposit a check and (unknowingly to you) while they are in there they rob the bank, and then get back in the car with you, when the police come, you are busted too. Its part of the law. So, I think the store keeper used this analogy for you too. Consider it an easy lesson, it could have been worse.

You need to pick better friends....you were an accomplice to her shoplifting. That's why you got punished too. I don't think anyone under the age of 16 should be just dropped at a mall or shopping center or movie theater.

Some depends on the circumstances involved... Like if you knew that she was shoplifting then you would have been an accessory in the crime which would cause them to punish you too... Just take the lesson and choose better friends...

No it's not fair, but there really isn't anything you can do about it except choose better friends. Find another mall you and your friends can go to and definately don't bring that friend! Don't fight it and just except it because saying it's unfair over and over again isn't going to do anything except drive you crazy. Sorry I didn't really help!
