I recommend you watch the previous seasons and shows, unless you don't mind reading recaps of episodes.

I would very seriously recommend it. Otherwise, you will be pulling your hair out, wondering why there are polar bears on a tropical island and other such abnormalities. You might get the basic plots by just watching the catch up episodes. But you will not understand the many, many small things like the polar bears, and why they have food and toiletries, and all kinds of other oddities. I'm not even SURE that you will fully understand the plots by watching only the catch up episodes. It will be a much better experience if you watch it from the beginning. I missed one episode in 3 years, and i am still wondering about a few things.
Netflix rents the discs, if you don't want to buy them. The new season of the show does not start until February, so you have alot of time to catch up.

You would catch on after a few shows, but to get the full impact of the show and what everyone background is I would advice you to read up on or try to watch from season 1. I saw 2 episodes of season 2 before it was over and was lost myself. I rented all the back episodes and now am a very avid watcher.
I even got my hubby hooked! He has the DVR set to record the whole series in case he can't be home!

I would suggest watching the earlier seasons. It's actually really addictive, so getting to watch them back to back on DVD is helpful. You'd be able to watch the current ones and understand what is going on for the most part, but there is a lot of history and continuity within the show, so knowing what has come before and which characters are connected will be beneficial.

My concept is im nevertheless at a loss for words. for sure Hurley and Ben stayed and lived on the island for a at the same time as after, as you referred to the comprehensive "you made an incredible #2" element. Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, and so on...made it off the island died later i assume. What got here approximately to Miles and Lapidis? Did I omit them interior the church or replaced into there no point out of them after the airplane took off? i'm guessing Jack had to be the final to die.
