Certainly does sound like a parasite. That appearance could be caused by any of several different parasites but luckily you can treat any of them with a good parasite medication. Coppersafe is good, but great care must be taken with copper to prevent overdoses that can kill fish or your bacteria colonies. I also like Maracide for a general parasite medication and Clout is also an Excellent choice.

Since most parasites multiply very quickly you need to start treatment as soon as possible, it sounds like your acaras gills are already quite infested.

If you have any additional questions feel free to email me.

Sounds like a parasite. Could be ich or velvet or another parasitic infection. You should see the fish scratch against objects in your aquarium. Anyway, I suggest you first do a 25% water change, then treat the water with a broad range anti-parasite medication. I have used "CopperSafe" and "General Cure" to treat parasites. Both have worked well. Best of luck to you.
