Fish have two chambered hearts, that pump blood first to the gills, and then to the rest of the body. Amphibians, however, have three chambered hearts. There is a good deal of separation of oxygenated blood (coming from the lungs and skin) and deoxygenated blood (coming from the tissues), so the amphibian system tends to be more efficient.
