Maybe not. You should ignore the answers above (sadly). This used to be an easy question, and many people clearly still think it is. If you are comparing "like" processors, say one Pentium 4 vs Another Pentium 4, then faster (more GHz) is always better. The new Intel Core Duo and AMD Athalon X2 64 both take big steps back in GHz but are still much faster than their higher GHz predecessors.

The best advice is to by the most current type of processor and the one with the highest GHz in your price range. If that doesn't help, post the model number of the processors and someone will help you.

You should know, which processor is the fastest at any moment may be highly debated.

The speed in which a processor works in measured in Ghz, so the higher the number, the faster it'll work. Meaning that 3.2Ghz is almost twice as fast as 1.8.

One problem with faster processors, though, is that because they process data that much faster, they'll also heat up a bit more than a slower processor, so if you're shopping around for processors, be sure that you also get a cooling unit that'll be enough to keep it from exploding.

If that 3.2 Ghz processor is a PresHOT, I mean Prescott and you are comparing it with a 1.8Ghz Allendale or 1.86Ghz Conroe, then that 3.2Ghz proc is really just better as a space heater.

The lower clocked but advance technology Core2 Duo perform more per clock cycle AND AT LOWER WATTAGE.

It depends. If they are both single cores, then the 3.2 Ghz is definitely faster. However, if the 1.8 is dual-core and the 3.2 is not, then the 1.8 will be faster because it can process twice as many things in the same period of time. In addition, the 1.8 will not use as much power or heat up as hot. Hope this helps.
PS - No need to be rude Goorkon and Master Chief.

depends what brand the processor is. AMD speeds look slower when compared to pentiums, but AMD processors usally out perform pentium with slower speeds and run cooler. It is kind of hard to explain. An AMD 1.8 is probably pretty compare able to a pentium 3.2

Yes. A 3.2 GHz processor of faster and generally better than a 1,8 Ghz processor.

yea, a lot better. unless the 1.8ghz processor is a dual core then there some dispute there.
