I'm hardly twelve and kids are already swearing, talking about sex, and the girls are freakin' 12-going-on-21! For that reason, I hang out with more of the boys in my grade (I'm a girl) and the girls make comments like "does she have something against being GIRL?!" and "act your age!". For cryin' out loud, I'm acting my age. I'm not flunking, cussing, or dressing like a sl*t! Then they call me crazy because I love to write. How many of you agree that this is crazy? Do you ever feel like telling them

"Oh, shut up and act your age! You're only 12 once. You can be 16 in four years!"

Most of the guys in my grade, MOST, excluding about 7, ar VERY mature. Actually, I have friends that are girls, a lot of friends that are girls, but guys make better friends. And since 5th grade, they've come to me for advice. Yes, I've caught two of them staring, but it's pretty normal. DON'T TELL ME THAT THEY DON'T LIKE ME AS A FRIEND WHEN YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW THEM!!

It IS crazy. I'm 12 too and I don't do any of those things, but other people I know do. It's like they want to be ten years old than they really are. It annoys me when people act like that around me and dress that way. But people who can be themselves and not hide under dressing like that and cussing and acting popular will get a lot further in life than those who get pulled into that whole thing. Once someone said to me, "I think that the fact that whenever I look at you you're smiling or laughing is so great, you'll go really far..." and I thought that that was really sweet. And I don't dress like a sl*t.
For the writing thing, that's crazy too. I'm also someone who loves to write, and I understand exactly how you feel. Some people just don't get it...it's your passion and you should feel free to do whatever you want. Writing is a creative outlet for you.
You can also choose your friends. Be happy with who you are. You sound really smart and like a great person to be aound. Good luck.
:-) (There's your smilie)

I'm 12 and agree with u completely. Oops, wait a minute - I have done more than my fair share of cussing. Other than that, it seems pretty weird. A lot of the 7th graders at school are dating (or claim to be) and I miss how simple friendships were in elementary.

Like you, I mostly hang out with guys, or by myself. The guys don't hang out with me as often now that they have girlfriends. It's kind of a shame. I also love writing. Poetry, essays, stories, everything!! It's a relief to find there is someone else out there like me! Keep being yourself and you will get the respect you deserve. Do you help out people, doing things like picking up their papers when they drop them or something? That will change your rep from a tomboy to a nice, well rounded person. You already are, but the world apparently needs to be hit over the head to see it. :)

No I totally agree with you. You're very smart for being young and enjoying being that way and growing up later. We have only a little while to be innocent and carefree but our whole lives to be grown ups with responsibility. And I always had more guy friends than girls all the way up until I graduated so that's normal as well. I say don't worry about the other girls. They'll regret it someday and probably end up pregnant or something else while you're enjoying your life. Way to go!! We need more young girls like you who aren't afraid to be themselves and enjoy where they are in life. You're a great example

This is just fine hun! All my friends that I can actually stand are guys! I'm not a tomboy or anything, I just prefer the company of guys. So this is normal, don't worry about it.

And those snobs make fun of you for liking to write? What kind of school do you go to? That's a real disgrace.

Who cares about what the girls say? Who are they to judge? What do other people's opinions matter?

Be who you want to be. Hang out with who you like. Your childhood is too short to not let yourself be comfortable and happy. Good luck! :)

You sound like you're in a much better place than those dumb little girls!! There's NOTHING wrong with writing and reading... I read all the time in middle school and some people thought it was dorky while others though it was cool that I was "so smart".

I'm 20 now, and I can tell you that it usually gets better in high school. Those girls are trying to figure out who they are right now and they want to be noticed. The easiest way to do that is to be bad. Just stick it out, and please don't succumb to the peer pressure unless that's how you really want to be.

i know how you feel i had that problem as well. and i agree loving to write is not crazy its actually a gift. also knowing a lot of guys is the best thing people could probably do for anyone, because most guys treat there friends as family especally friends from the opposite sex. and so you would be safe around them. but about the girls just ignor them hopefully its just a fase that there going through.

u shouldnt hang out with them!!!! but it is quite normal, because some of the girls might be worried because they might have started there period. but u never kno. im 14 and i hear cussing everyday, i hear the "F-Word" about 10 times every hour! i think it was going on in 6th grade, when i was 12 but im not sure! it is becoming more and more popular to cuss, have sex, dress like a hooker, not care about school, and just be jerks to ppl.

I think that you are perfectly right!!! I hate it that some of my friends swear, but none of them talk about sex.....And writing is awesome. This is crazy, just freakin' slap them when they insult you like that again. Obviously they aren't listening to your words too well. Good luck!

i agree with you completely, i am a junior in highschool now and look at the 6th and 7th graders in awe... they have lost all maturity and respect since i was that young, welcome to the real world though, this is what we will have to deal with the rest of our lives... the cussing, rude little brats that are getting pregnate at 13 or are flunking out of all their classes and saying it wasnt their fault... im sorry you have to deal with that, you are starting somewhat early but hey, that is life.
