they have it. they finally got a good coaching staff. they have 3 great recievers in calvin johnson, roy williams and mike furrey, mike martz can make any hobo off the street a pro bowl quarterback, they have tj duckett, kevin jones and tatum bell at running back, they have ernie sims, cory redding and shaun rogers on defense not to mention a good kicker (jason hanson). im not saying that they don't have needs, but they did a good job this offseason by having and awesome draft and signing a bunch of marinellis guys for defense from tampa bay and martz's guys from st louis. they could use an awesome defensive back, who they might have got in the draft (gerald alexander) if he turns out to be good, the lions will be in great shape
i think that it will take a few years for them to contend in the playoffs, but since they are in the weak nfc, they may be able to make the wild card with an 8-8 or 9-7 record. definately possible this year. watch out for the lions. theyre a team to watch

A QB and RB. Every team needs a good QB and RB to win. I can't even think of any players on the Lions, that's how bad some of the players are (no offense). Heck every position could use a revamping.

Honestly, I think they have what it takes for this coming season. I think the only position they need to worry about is the quarterback. Jon Kitna is a good QB, but he only has like 2-3 more years left in him. They did pick up Drew Staton, but I don't see him being the quarterback of the "future." I believe that they have tremendous talent. Especially at WR. They are going with a three wide receiver set for this coming season. They have Roy Williams (my favorite wideout in the NFL), Calvin Johnson, and Mike Furrey. If one of them don't work out they have Marcus Robinson. So I hope this answers your questions.
GO LIONS!!!!!!
P.S. If you haven't notice I am a big Detroit Lions Fan.

they need ownership, management and coaching all on the same page and all dedicated to winning and all knowinng their place respectively, to make it happen. an owner who wants to win will open up the vault to get the right players that the coach needs. The gm/ coachs will draft the right personel to fit their offensive ans defensive schemes. The coacing staff will devise gameplans that put their players in a position to win. they will play them to their strengths, not their weaknesses. you dont make JR. Seau cover a slot reciever, you might match him up on a tight end, but you would more than likely have him rush teh passer on an obvious passing down. just like you dont make clinton portis pound up the middle 20 to 30 times a game. you give him dump off and screen type passes and let him utilize his speed. it requires all parts of the team to know all their responsibilties and know each others and have mutal respect. firing matt millen might not be a bad move either. from what i've seen that dude cant make a football decision to save his life. you never know what his philosophy is going into a draft. i liked their first rounder this year though. i think detroit got a sure fire stud barring injury of course.

they need a QB that can compete through a whole season. not just half the season or half a game. Jon Kitna isnt a go to guy as a QB....he kinda sucks. they need to STOP drafting wide recievers too....4 out of the last five draft they nabbed a wide reciever in the first round. thats a waste of picks...they can use that pick strength other positions liek QB, OL, DL, LB they need them ALL.
