they can, there gonna have young starters that pitched this year like clippard, hughes, etc. even though they can i think 2009 is more likely so the young starters can develop.

The Yankees were supposed to have the "super" team this year and look at the injuries that have befallen them. Another thing is that even with all the spending that Steinbrenner does to get the best players that he can it still doesnt mean that the team he puts on the field year after year is going to win. Its all about team chemistry and the Yankees do not have the correct players on their team right now, or the players that are on the team are distracted by other things or maybe some players are not playing to their potential and just want to collect the millions and not have to really work for it.

Will the Yankees win the World Series in 2008? I doubt it. Then again arent they "predicted" to win the World Series at the beginning of every baseball season? You never really hear of anyone else being predicted to win. What the Yankees are doing with shuffling people in and out every year is sort of like what the Washington Redskins (nfl) do just about every year and you see where that has gotten them.

No, not unless they find a team to trade away all their aging All Stars with bloated salaries. The Yankees have finally dug themselves a hole money can't dig them out of. Even if they had a 300 million payroll they still wouldn't win. And resgining Clemens is going to be the biggest bust of the year, he's already having groin issues.

The Yankees just need to start over and rebuild this team with their farm system. They need to stop trading away all their young prospects and let them develop. Like they did with Jeter, Rivera and Pettitte in the early 90s. It will take time but Steinbrenner and the Yankees fans aren't willing to wait that long. But that is the only way that the Yankees will get their franchise back on track.

Steinbrenner and the fans need to realize that the Yankees aren't going to win the World Series every year, no matter how much money they throw at free agents. One day the MLB will have a salary cap and we won't be having the 200 million dollar pay roll discussion anymore.

No, next year is the start of the rebuilding process. That will take a few years at minimum so I would say at least 4 years before they can think about contending for something.

Maybe if Clemens would pitch an entire season...

I'd be more worried about their minor leaguers. I heard NYY were calling up players from A ball to pitch in the majors. That screams as desperation, and I don't think the Yanks have the depth to compete.

Steinbrenner might have the money, but money doesn't win you championships...talent does.

They have like the 3rd worst record in baseball. They may be the worst team in the league and they have the highest payroll of all time. Yet the manager and GM still remain.

not a chance, too many high salary players bought to win a championship. Spending money doesn't win championships anymore unless you're the '02 Red Wings. developing your farm system and building team around pitching. having a good bullpen helps too, which the Yankees DO NOT have.
