I want to know if using mobile instant messaging on Verizon is free..?

Well i just want to know it is free to use the application... i know it says that they only charge you for the texts you send and that depends on your text plan... for example i am paying 30 bucks extra for unlimmited texts and flix and pix messages to any network.... so does that mean i can use mobile im for free?
