I have seen a pair of shoes hanging on electric/telephone wires, what does this mean?

It is a pair shoes tied together at the laces and hang off the wires all over town.

OH, I know what you mean! I've seen that a lot. I heard that it's put there to show that someone died in the spot under the shoes on the wires above,. So, I guess it's there to symbolize the death of the person or give respect in some way.
