Well, since you qualify by test scores (seems like the SAT, for example, can get you in), it's kind of superfluous. Good GRE scores will be more important. Just about anyone who gets accepted to a decent grad program would qualify for MENSA, I would think. I agree with the above post that if all you're doing is paying the membership fee, there's not much point to listing it. If, on the other hand, you're actively involved in events, contributing to newsletters, participating in conferences, etc., it might be useful.

Think of it this way--your GPA and GRE scores will prove you're smart. The rest of your application should be devoted to proving that you're prepared to do intensive research in your field.

If you have been involved in activities of a local mensa chapter, of course. If not, and it is just to show them that you have a high I.Q., probably not. They are more concerned that you can do the work, as evidenced by your academic record and test scores, than by your natural abilities (a lot of mensa members grossly underachieve in life). It might have the same effect as putting the number of books in your home library on your resume (I've seen this done twice, and my reaction both times has been, "but how many of these has he read?").
