He's just hiding for the moment. Chances are the only thing affecting him is having been moved to a new tank. Still, it wouldn't hurt to make sure you're keeping him in the proper conditions - temp 76-78o, pH 8.0-8.4, ammonia and nitrite = 0, nitrate <30, specific gravity 1.024-1.026.

Yellow-tails are semi-aggressive, so he may decide (once he gets used to the tank) to claim the tank as "his" territory. Be prepared for some chasing and bullying by him when you try to add other fish. Hopefully your tank is large enough to accommodate more than one territorial fish, and there are plenty of hiding spots for new fish. Damsels are omnivores, so he should be fed some algae (or algae-containing flakes or pellets), not just brine shrimp, plankton, or "meaty" foods.

Damselfish is generally hardy and is often used in new aquariums or for beginner hobbyists. It will feed on most foods offered to it and is easy to care for. This damselfish is considered to be reef safe and is often used to add color to reef aquarium. He is just getting use to his new home!
