I live in a dorm and I have a small, one gallon tank. I would like two fish that can coexist. I was advised against Mollies because they like to be in large groups, and Bettas are aggressive. What's the ideal pair?

If you have a filter and mini heater (or your room stays above 70o) two male fancy guppies (so you don't have to worry about fry).

A 1 gallon tank is really too small for even 1 fish! Try a five gallon, it's still small and can fit 2-4 small fish like guppies or corycats or 1 Betta and two mollies! I have mollies and they do fine in Numbers of 3 or more!

I actually had a bubble-eyed goldfish in a one gallon tank for the longest time. The only reason why he died was because the filter still had carbon dust in it even after I rinsesd it and the tank got really cloudy overnight and his gills basically clogged up.

A betta works nicely too. Any small fish. Unless, they're minnow or schooling fish, I'd advise only one fish in the bowl.

You need to have a filter with any kind of fish you get, and should stick to something that doesn't get big at all. I would recommend neons. You can get the small ones in a few colors, they don't get big. They do require a heater though - all tropical fish do. I don't know if you can put a filter and heater on a one gallon tank though - they are mostly for a single betta as they don't require a filter - they can breathe air from the surface.

If you would settle for only one fish, then pick a betta. They are gorgeous fish and one would be IN HEAVEN in your one gallon tank. Most bettas are just put in small bowls and don't have anywhere they can swim. So a one gallon tank would be plenty of room for a betta.

You need a bigger tank, if you want a pair, at least three gallons. The only fish you could get would be a betta.

You cannot have a pair of fish in a one gallon. The best you can have is a singular tiny fish like Carnegie's lifebearer or dwarf topminnow, whcih grow up to 2cm (1 inch)at most.
