I have a 1993 Ford Explorer XLT that desperately needs transmission fluid. I have two bottles of brake fluid in the back seat so can I use brake fluid as a substitute for transmission fluid? I heard somewhere that you could or it may have been the other way around but I doubt it.

no, don't do it, you can get away with a little but not as much as you need.

Na homie. The brake fluid has a different viscocity rating. It will also dillute whatever transmission oil you have in there. If you use brake fluid, you will eventually need to change out your transmission fluid. I know im a hummve mechanic in the U.S ARMY.

No. Just buy some transmission fluid. You may want to consider fixing the leak as well.

NO-- brake fluid is a corrosive liquid ,it'll destroy your tranny. I suppose if you were stuck in the middle of nowhere you could use it to reach civilization but you would have to rebuild your transmission.

Don't do it, they have different names for a reason. Brake fluid is much to viscous for this.

NO and NOT the other way around either. Use trans. fluid only. Mercon/dexron is what is recommended. Go and get the right stuff.
