I have a Sony laptop thats only a few months old.I got a virus on it so I brought it back to the shop and they restored it to factory settings. But now I have another virus on it. Can I return it back to factory settings myself or do I have to bring it back into the shop again? I didn't get any cd with it and when I go to system restore it says there are no restore points to return to.

Go to www.grisoft.com and download A V G Free Anti-Virus. Reverting your computer WILL remove the Virus. You do NOT need a CD to revert to Factory SettingsThe Laptop you have like millions of others has a pre-installed operating system. To revert back to Factory Settings do the following. Reboot the computer and as it is rebooting look at the top of the Screen where you will see an F Key. The F Key will be either F10, F11 OR F12.Next Reboot the computer again but, this time when it is rebooting CONTINUALLY Press the F Key you took note of. Next follow the on screen instructions and do NOT Register or sign up with a different Internet Service Provider. If the afore-mentioned procedure does NOT work then you need to make ONE change. This is , INSTEAD of Pressing the Appropiate Key by itself Press CTRL AND THE F KEY TO-GETHER and once again follow the on screen instructions. [tip] if you have My Way Search or My Way Search Assistant installed Remove it as it contains Adware.

RTFM. The master files are on the hard drive and the Sony User Manual explains how to make your own Recovery CD(s).

Then, follow the instructions to return your PC to factory settings.

Finally, get AVG Anti-virus from:

Usually there are restore discs that accompany a computer purchase. Before you use them, be sure you back up all of your files, because once you restore, those files will not be accessible.
If you do not have the restore disc, your best bet would be to get on line with the company that made your computer and ask for some copies of the restore discs.

Anti virus programs are a GOOD idea!
Take it back to the shop, and ask them to install one for you!
