It does help your spelling, but it also depends on how much you read AND write. Writing helps you with spelling as well. I'm a writer and a reader and I'm very good at spelling, and I love to write. I write every day. If you want to become better at spelling, study spelling writing and reading.

I've come to understand that reading on a regular basis can improve spelling, conversational skills, and vocabulary.
If you have a difficult time with spelling, it's probably because you never learned to proof read efficiently. Just take more time when you write. Instead of zipping off sentences and not thinking about it, take a few seconds to proof read.
All else fails, use Firefox. It has an in screen spell check.

oh yes we learn the shape of words from reading them when we see them misspelled the shape is different and that is a clue that something is wrong so we keep looking until we know they are wrong then get them spelled right. By learning more and more shapes from reading we refine our ability to identify those words that are misspelled because of that shape change.

Not necessarily. It has been proven that we really dont read the whole words. We jsut raed the lsat ltteer and we can unerstnad the wrods. So spelling doenst really improve with reading. Pax -

yes, the words will slowly absorb into your mind. i am an avid reader and i get perfect on EVERY spelling test. NO studying needed.
