RAM is Random Access Memory and refers to the volatile working memory that the computer uses to run prgrams. Information in that memory is lost when the computer turns off.

This is contrasted with the magnetic storage on your hard disc which holds information (programs, data) that you are not using at the moment. That memory is not lost when the computer turns off.

Though the computer can swap some of what in RAM out to the hard disc when there is not enough RAM (sometimes referred to as "physical memory") there is a minimum amount of RAM you must have to run the operating system and a given program or programs. Clearing disc space won't help.

You can try shutting down any background processes you are not using at the time (for example, your anti-virus if you're not on line), but the message you'revgetting suggests youb will hasve to add more memory if you want to run that program. Memory os relatively inexpensive, and your Mac dealer or a friend who knows Macs can do it easily.

If you are trying to download several things at once that is the reason why your computer is telling you that you don't have enough RAM. You can buy more RAM at a store like Circuit City, or any other store that deals in computer parts. But first you need to have a friend who is computer savvy check you computer to see if it can be upgraded.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Computers need memory to run programs and it sounds like your computer needs it. You can buy RAM cards at your local Staples.. or another computer store. They are easy to install in your computer and just slide into slots. You can buy different amounts of memory but most new computers come with at least 2-4 slots to put RAM in. 512MB of RAM is good to start with getting.

VI. "Not Enough Memory" to install message
Make sure you've started up your computer from the Mac OS CD. If you can't start up from the CD, quit all open applications and make sure you've followed the steps described in "You Can't Start Up the Computer Using the Mac OS CD" above.
