Well, my family has been using Verizon Online for about two years now, and this is the third or fourth router we have had to receive from them, specifically the second or third router that is this exact same model. The previous ones have all lived their life spans in roughly 8 months time. The end of which, we spend 3 days on the phone with Verizon tech support in India, before they actually admit the router is going to need to be replaced, the majority of which is always spent on the same repetitive "ipconfig" steps. The router never fails not to be able to be used again, and they send us another one.

This is my current problem. The past several days, the third light from the left on the router has been deactivated, seemingly like clockwork. Roughly half the time, because of the absence of this light, the internet is unavailable. I have unplugged the router and let it sit, the first time for 5 minutes, and again for 20 another day. This appears to temporarily solve the problem

The following is the conclusion of my above statement because of the character limit:

but within about 6 hours, the helpful effects have subsided.

I realize this has been quite a lengthy post, but this problem has been recurring for about 2 years with these routers. My sincere thanks to those who have managed to work their way through my story, and I hope you can help me out.

To Taba:

Thank you for your reply, but it is actually a gateway as it must accept the phone line for the DSL service, and we have yet to find a modem/router all in one.

If you have had nothing but bad luck with the routers from your ISP, then why keep going back to them. Go and purchase a router, like the D-Link 624. It is very cheap right now, under 50.00, and is very dependable and easy to setup.

Edit:
Really, there are litterally thousands of Modem/Router combos out there. Also there is nothing that says you need to use a combo unit, you can purchase a DSL Modem and a Router and set them up together.
