NO.
It is forecasted that in 4 1/2 to 5 Billion Years the Sun will begin to reach a point where all the Hydrogen it is presently fusing into Helium (via nuclear fusion) will have been reduced to the point that the fusion of Helium into other elements begins. At that time, the Sun will expand (not explode) to twice, or three times, or four times its present size. When this happens we can expect that the three closest planets will be cooked literaly and eventually be drawn into the center of the Sun due to its increased influence. When those planets fall into the center of the Sun, major changes in the density and nuclear activities on the Sun itself will occur. Several different theories exist for what will happen after that. For all intents and purposes, however, none of us will be alive to complain about it, having been burned to a crisp long before it occurs.
Remember that people are complaining right now about a few degrees F increase in average Earth temperatures. ?When the Sun's diameter increases by 2X, by 3X, or by 4X,
you can easily see that all water sources on Earth will dry up,
and most greenery will burn up. All living creatures will die from increased heat on the surface of the Earth. nothing alive will be spared in the expected daytime heat of 225 Degrees +, or more.

The sun does not have enough mass to explode. Only stars with a lot of mass explode and turn into Supernova. The sun however, will turn into a red giant, and will definately consume Mercury and Venus. It is still being debated as to weather or not Earth will also be consumed by the sun. Some optimistic people believe that the Sun will simply not be big enough to swallow the Earth. Other pessimists beileve that the Sun will be big enough to consume the Earth. Some people belive that as the sun turns into a red giant, its gravity will become so weak that Earth just might pull out of orbit and escape being swallowed by the Sun. Another theory is that the Earth might get swallowed, but just barely near the surface of the sun. Although still within the Sun, the temperature of the outermost part of the sun might just be cool enough for the Earth to stay as a solid rock body rather than melt
Whether the Earth escape the fate of Mercury and Venus or Not, The intense heat of the expanding sun WILL destroy EVERYTHING on Earth. Even if the Earth survives being swallowed, all water and most of the Earth's lithosphere, which is the Earth's crust and upper mantle, will be vaporized, and leave the surface bone dry

Well that is only one theory. I recently watched a program on the Discovery channel about that very thing. Scientists say that since our sun is not as big as other stars that it will just expand and then shrink to become a white dwarf. THe swallowing the 3 planets thing was also discussed. They said that as the sun got bigger that the gravitational field of the sun would reduce and possibly let the Earth slip by. that is just what I heard so i hope that helps.

No. In 5 billion years, the Sun will expand to a red giant star, engulfing at least the first 3 planets in the process. Then it will puff off it's outer layers and spend the rest of existence as a white dwarf star. No exploding involved; it's too small.

Read science materials more often. Get your facts straight.
All estimates say 5 billion years to "Red Giant" stage. Afterwards, Coronal Mass Ejections until there is just a small core left, terrifically more dense than the Earth but about the same size.
Destroy planets? Maybe the first two. Earth will likely survive baked to a scorched crisp.
NO supernova in our Sun's future.

The sun is not going to explode like you think it will. The sun will never die actually. When the time comes and the hydrogen left in the core of the sun becomes available we, as a spieces will have long been deceased. The current frame that most scientist work with is within the framework of 512 million years. When the sun, our neighborhood star begins it's cycle of nova, into super nova gernerationw will have past and past, in the human playbook.
Whenever I begin to rely on the end of this particular universe to describe my ideas and my possesion with the events which will shape and mold the persons and the ideals, one must take into account as they deal their filthy cards.

The sun is too small to Nova.... It will expand to a red giant (swallowing up the inner planets) before collapsing to a white dwarf... But it won't matter to us either way as we'll be long gone before earth gets swallowed.

The sun will not explode as it dies it will expand into a red giant and all the planets orbiting it will be consumed by the sun, the it shrink into a white dwarf and finally cool into a cinder.

Its probably more like 5 billion years, and it won't explode like a nova so much as just expand to engulf Mercury and Venus and possibly Earth.

in 5 billion years it will expand into a red giant and then it will puff off its outer layers and the only thing remaining will be a small and dense star, a white dwarf.
