The holocaust in my opinion. In slavery, there was a deal whereby the owners got something (work) and the slaves got something (housing, food, etc). It was by no means equitable...DON'T GET ME WRONG...but there was a certain give & take. Not so in the holocaust, where the sole purpose was to destroy a people.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Most people want to say the Holocaust was worse because they had 1st hand accounts from survivor, and picture evidence. And not with the spin of those doing the killing.

Breaking it down to the bare fact. OK, 6 million Jews were killed, just blotted out. Marched form the rail cars into the gas chambers. That was bad. But slavery(specially the variety here in the USA)was extremely heinous. It was a systemic, and sustained torture of a whole race for more than 200 years. And done so for profit, mere greed. Whole families where parceled out. And beaten like cattle, maybe many times because the task master had a bad day. And as one poster said, the raping and such that went along with it. To kill quick, or torture over a whole life time? While making a profit off those you are abusing. The amount of people effected(even if they did not die immediately)came by way of slavery. So for that fact, the length and over all numbers effected, slavery was worse.

I don't know if you can really compare these two tragedies, since slavery was hundreds of years and the holocaust wasn't, but I have to agree with you and say that the holocaust was way worse.

Both are deplorable but, if we are basing this argument on sheer numbers of murders, slavery wins hands down.
The holocaust was a localised event that occured over a period of 5 years. It is estimated that 4-5 million jews may have been murdered.
Slavery has been around for as long as man has. From the beginning of recorded history, 3000BC (and certainly well before), man has enslaved man. Slaves were (and are)treated as sub-human and, as such, were (are) disposable.
Over the last 5000 years there would have been many many millions (impossible to guess) of slaves killed by overworking, ill-treating or for mere pleasure.
It is estimated that there is more than 30 million people in slavery...TODAY!

I think the Holocaust was worse because the Holocaust is the result of one person's mental issues and the despiration of an economically depressed nation. They wanted a scape-goat and massacred millions. Those who were opposed could not voice their opinions for fear of their own persecutions. Slavery was bad. People died because of slavery, but it did not almost eliminate a religious group. Many slaves reached freedom, and those who did not believe in slavery were not forced to participate. They could speak against it.

Both were bad but the holocaust is worst because it is just extermination with no other motive than hate. Slavery was basicaly motivated by economic reasons and was immoral. The aim was not to kill or to harm that was just a byproduct that people failed to see. In the case of the holocaust, murder and pain were the aims.

I think the Holocaust was worst. I am not saying that slavery was something better but it is clear that killing a big number of children, adults, elderly in a very short time like cattle was something horrible. That is my point of view

Let's see 6million killed solely on their race or a few million sold into slavery and eventually set free. Both were tragic, but the holocaust was way worse!!

That is really a tough call. Slavery went on in Europe for I don't know how many years and was brought to America by following their home land traditions. Slavery was major cruelty unlike anything we can comprehend.
Like wise, the extermination camps were unbelievably cruel. It is hard for me to believe one human being can be so callas toward another. And, with slavery, it was their own people who were capturing and selling people. But that was the least of the cruelty.
I say it is a toss up.

Both are two of humankind's worst mistakes. If it wasn't for events like these, then the world would be a much different place. The Holocaust brought out some of the strongest feelings us humans can muster. Events like those those lead to hate, and hate leads to suffering.
