The United States and Iran are gaving diplomatic relations again after more than 25 years of silence.

What will this do for the situation with Iran allegedly trying to acquire nuclear weapons? Will the resumed communications help this matter?

And what will it do for the situation in Iraq?

I think its a step in the right direction,
but honestly im not expecting anything dramatic here.
Iran will shoot off its reheteric,
and we will puff out our chest and flex the naval power arms again. But I dont see this issue resolving anytime soon..

but you know what i say,
'Give'm hell Bush!'

There we go again. Would you believe both parties? USA are there together with the military behind them. Iran still agitating.
You will never see Ahmedneejad kissing Bush. Another game show from Bush.
Still speculating the Middle East Iran for power.
England with be the first to say yes to USA.
Israel smile. The money will come for not retaliating. Replenish millions lost to the Lebonan war.
And the whole world are blufalloes.

Very excellent question from a brilliant thinker!

If the US normalizes relations Iran, the effect on the current relationship will be greatly changed as there will be a forum where both party's grievances can finally be addressed. By convincing Iran to suspend its nuclear components, Iran will be more committed to regional stability and thus deter from its nuclear ambitions

Iran holds the key to ending the war in Iraq because its leverage in influence is very powerful. Iran can pull out its support of Shi'ite militants who are causing this chaos in Iraq.

There are a fantasy going around asserting that the Israeli Mossad are making plans objective assassinations of the Iranian nuclear scientists and physicists. If the US or Israel assaults Iran Syria will help them. i think of in previous due 2006 or in 2007 typical practitioner Bashar Al Assad the president of Syria have signed a protection tension handle Iran. asserting if ether united states of america is attacked via Israel or the US the different one will help. If Israel assaults Iran Hamas brazenly pronounced they are going to advance there assaults on Israel. extra like huzbullah will fireplace there Katyusha racket into Israel. Huzbullah certainly have some c-701 anti ships weapons. it is doubtful would the Iraqi communities called the Mahdi military intervene

As long as Iran has a anti American government that is on it's way to build nuclear weapons and sending arms and men to Iraq to kill Americans and Iraqi civilians in the name of Islamo Fascism then nothing will come of these talks unless they see that we will not back down and if they don't cease their fight against a people who just want to be free we will kick their azzes. I hope they back down for the sake of the people who live there. Most are good folks it's their government that is corrupt. Oh and contrary to what some have said on here that Iran is not helping terrorists in Iraq, the ambasador from Iraq to the U.N. said last week when asked by Wolf Blitzer on CNN " Is the Iranian government sending weopons and men to fight against Americans in Iraq?" He replied yes but we are looking into that matter. I thought Wolf's jaw was goint to hit the floor.

The Iranian's arrest of 3 American academics on false espionage charges immediately following the talks was yet another signal that the Iranians are purposely and continuously thumbing their nose at any US effort to work with them.

It is a hopeless situation though at least we can say we've tried.

Nothing. Only defuse the Democrats, "Ooh, give bilateral talks a chance" argument. The Iranian leadership wants to start a global war because they believe their Shi'ite hero will return to destroy their enemies.
They deserve to have us "share" our nuclear technology with them from a very high flying airplane or the tip of a missile.

Communication can't make things any worse.

Doug C. Are you implying the Middle East was ever stable?

It's a smoke and mirrors game by the Brush crowd so that when he gets the US into another war with Iran they can stand back and say "well we tried the diplomatic route and it didn't work".

I see no real honest effort to really make it work.

It still amazes me how many Americans are in total denial as to what the current Govt agenda and intentions really are.
