It's both. Depends on what you think. If you've never felt hollow, then it's just an empty sounding word. If you've felt empty before, then it's a feeling too.

It's both. You can feel hollow by saying, "I feel so hollow inside." -"I feel empty inside."
Or "That tree is hollow"
