Somehow it manages to be both. It's not good to feel that way.

It's both. Depends on what you think. If you've never felt hollow, then it's just an empty sounding word. If you've felt empty before, then it's a feeling too.

Yes it's a feeling. I've felt hollow inside many times. Sad and lonely.

A feeling as well as an empty sounding word.
Feeling = sad & lonely... feel as though you don't feel complete.

It's both. You can feel hollow by saying, "I feel so hollow inside." -"I feel empty inside."
Or "That tree is hollow"
