I dont really think its the liberals that love Chavez. Its the has-been singers, actors, and "protest anything" crowd. Yes i know, they are all liberals, but its the same old crowd. I wouldnt worry too much about Chavez. Like all dictators, they will lose thier power when the residents rise up against them. Like they are now. As far as one of your responders answer about the free oil. Nothing is free. He is just trying to undermine the American way of life, to make himself look caring and the good guy. Americans arent dumb.

Talk to the Venezuelans who are here and they will tell you he is a thug. I go there frequently; my brother-in-law is a senator there on the outs with Chavez. Chavez is a coward and a communist. He disbanded the legal Congress when he took over and is an enemy to "free enterprise". He has a program in place where he steals land and businesses from the wealthy and the middle class and gives it to the poor; but not all the poor----only the ones that support him. Venezuela used to be one of the most prosperous countries in South America! No longer! These are facts. Since Chavez came to power he has seized control of the oil companies there and hoards the money for himself and his cronies! The country is in a state of ruin. Just this past year, one of their main highways collapsed from "no repair & maintenance. The Highway & Transportation Dept. has been disbanded. The economy is terrible! The Education Department is in shambles. Chavez is now attempting to scrap the constitution and re-write it so that he can stay in power indefinately!!! Imagine that happening here! He is a mad man and in bed with Castro. He gives Cuba free oil, and anyone who opposes him is put on a hit list. If he has a business, it will be siezed. If he has a home and land, it will be seized by Chevez's Government. And if one persists in their opposition, they will be jailed or killed. Riots are frequent occurances, and "martial law" has been declared several times last year. That T.V. Station in Venezuela was the last non-governement run station in Venezuela. It was the only one to report news like our stations do. Now the government run stations there willo report only the news that Chevez wants reported. It will be censored. He has openly declared that he is building a Venezuela modeled after communist Cuba. The only human rights that he believes in are for himself and his inner circle of supporters. The military are in his back pocket and on high payroll. Any of the old military officers that were against him, have been systematically removed. Soon, there will be little organized opposition left. I wish we as a Country would take him out or declare war on Venezuela. If we did, the people their would rally to the cause to over throw him and his abusive government. Unlike Iraq, we could help them restablish their governement, and since they are civilized people, we would be successful and out of there very quickly. (There are no terrorists there , and overall, the majority of these people believe in democracy, free enterprise and an elected governement). I KNOW OF NO REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS WHO RESPECT THIS THUG. Both Clinton and Bush would like to see him gone. I think the issue has been trying to come up with a legal or "world accepted way" to take him out or send troops to Venezuela to aid in his over throw. But conservatives and liberals alike Know he is bad news! (THANKS for your message! More people need to know that Chevez is a threat to world peace, democracy and human rights...and we can't just ignore him. At some point, we need to take action against him!)

As I and many liberals have always felt, he is a fascist who is turning Venezuela into a communist dictatorship.
What with conservatives thinking that liberals love Chavez and hate America? Weird...

Each generation gets them. One always escapes the nut house and gets elected. Is there such a thing as "functional insanity".? Speaking of that where is Al Gore today.

I've never been a big fan of Chavez. He's a nutcase, although we did benefit from the cheap oil Venezuela gave us.

I still like the guy. He was voted in on majority about 60% and ya they had people counting the votes unlike the US elections where Gore was fleeced of his title. His people in majority want communism and hes giving it to them. I hope for their unending happiness.
