The 12 zodiac signs each own unique themes, and Scorpio is among the darkest for that matter.
Scorpio indicates a change, like you stated in your question, but underneath the surface, it also means illusion, possession, profanation, forced adaptations and sexual activity (read: sexuated beings, who lead to natural selection).
