I was a battered wife of a very extreme violent man. I brought a car to try and get my license to get away, he stole my car which I reported to the police and they cannot seem to find the details, anyway, I have just received a letter saying that I have an outstanding fine to the total of $71.00 dated 17/06/1998 Canberra ACT, I split with him in 1994. I cant pay that right away. I have never had a license and have never driven anywhere, I am too scared to.

There is something you can fill out on the back of the Infringement Notice saying you were not the driver of the vehicle and you can name the person who was. It is obviously your ex's fine, not yours. Fill it out quickly and send it back so they can look into it. You would have friends who would witness to the fact that you never had the car in 1998, so if it goes to court....which it probably wont, then, it is my opinion that you wont have to pay the fine at all. Dont pay it, its not your fine.....and what are they going to do anyway....cancel your licence?....you havent got one to cancel. Or they could cancel the rego on the car, in whch case it will be your ex who suffer's anyway if he's got the car. I think you are perfectly justified in not paying the fine. Just fill out the reverse side of the Infringement notice and let them look into it.

Just behave yourself, sure it's hard, been there done that going through a divorce after 33 years, I know how P/O two people can get towards each other, ever thought of calling about a support group, can't hurt might even help you, something to think about.
