When i drive for like a while and then every once in a while when i brake and stop completely. then when i slightly let go of the brake the car kicks or it feels like someone just hit me from behind. does anyone know what the problem is.

I'd guess your brakes are sticking.

It sounds like the transmission is taking its time to select low gear.

Without knowing the make and model of the vehicle, it is a bit hard.

It could be anything from band adjustment to incorrect kickdown adjustment (too much valve pressure) will do this.
