i have a 98 kdx 200 and i just put new front brakes in a week ago and havent ridden much since. they feel VERY spongy. why is this?

There might be air in the brake lines. You should try bleeding them.

A few things come to mind.
Air in the line - bleed the brakes.
Contaminated or worn out brake fluid - bleed the brakes, keep adding new fluid and bleed until the new stuff comes out.
The master cylinder needs to be rebuilt, or replaced.

you will need to bleed the brakes to get all the air out. fill the top of the master cylinder with brake fluid, and disconnect the hose at the end of the brakes with a container to catch the brake fluid. you dont want the fluid to touch the car cause it will remove paint. have someone pump the brakes till you see a consistent flow of brake fluid. then put everything back together, and refill the master cylinder.
