is anyone as terrified of snakes as i am???

Question

i'm so scared of snakes i can't even play a game of snakes and ladders!!! (i know they are a cartoon!)
it's as often as every other day you see a snake in a newspaper/magazine. they are disgusting!
i want to know if i'm the only one who has this fear!!!!!!!

yes, you're right i did have a bad experience with a snake! i found one on my bed about 5years when i was living in a rented apartment. dont know where the hell it came from, it might've escaped from a neighbours??!! it slithered off and i thought that was the end of that. it made an appearance a month later when i moved out of the apartment, the landlord found it in the sofa, scaring the sh*t out of him! it freaks me out that it was there all along without my knowledge

I'm not afraid of all snakes, because not all snakes are harmful. I have a healthy respect for venomous snakes, though, especially since there are so many here in Texas where I live. But I am not phobic about them... I am actually fascinated by them, when I can observe them from a safe distance.

I don't know that a snake phobia is something that needs curing, though. It's not like fearing people... If it bothers you a bunch, however, you could seek out counseling for it.

Oh, and just so you know, I have known people who are so afraid of a certain animal, they - like you - cannot even look at pictures of them.

I have a friend who was just as much, if not more, afraid of snakes as you are. What we did to help her was bring her to the pet store. They keep the snakes in glass tanks, so they can't get out. Well as soon as we got near them she freaked, and booked it out of the store, almost crying. We finally got her calmed down and brought her back in. We assured her they were locked behind the glass.

We brought her into that store everyday for a month, and as the days went on, she went from not even looking at snakes to being able to open the top on the cage. After another few weeks, she was able to put her hand in the cage, then pet it, then eventually hold it.

We also had her do research on snakes, I worked with her, and now we're both pretty knowledgeable, but that combined with the pet store has helped her get over her fear. We spent a lot of time learning, so she wouldn't be so afraid.

From my own experience, I think that was a good way to get over her fear of snakes. She's still afraid of wild snakes, as am I, but not like she was.

I really dont hate snakes, I dont love them either.
Try to stay calm, I mean, you get scared even if it is a cartoon? It can be phobia.
Snakes arent that bad, people thinks that they areslimy animals (how does it feel when touched), but they really arent, they are totally dry and smooth, cooler than what many people thinks.
If you´re afraid of them just because how they look, then you shouldnt be afraid of that, if you have ever had a bad experience then you should just keep in mind that animals deserve respect, as mucha as humans, but dont be afraid, sometimes animals are just passing by and they really dont want to mess up with nobody.
They are more scared of us that us of them

You DO realize that you have the symptoms of a serious mental illness, a phobia, RIGHT? Phobias ARE mental illnesses, just like depression, and they are treatable. Anyone who is as bad off as you claim to be(although I wonder how many people are really that phobic, and how many are just looking for attention and sympathy), needs to see a psychiatrist, seriously. Your fear is irrational; it would make far more sense to be afraid of cats, dogs and horses, since even horses kill more people in the US than snakes do! DEER kill more people than snakes do, yet I've never heard anyone proclaim being so terrified of Bambi that they can't look at a picture of one, or describe a deer as "disgusting"! What is so disgusting about a snake, please tell? Chances are that everything you THINK you know about them is based on wives' tales and myth, and is 110% WRONG. Educate yourself-humans have developed evolved brains for a reason, and if you really are that phobic, use that brain to find a psychiatric professional near you who can help you get over this illness!

I am terrified of them, when I was at school I was talking in biology and the teacher who had snakes was standing behind me and let the snake drop onto my shoulder,right near my face, I jumped over the desk and ran out of the classroom, that fear has stayed with me I hate seeing them on TV I just close my eyes.

May peole are afraid of snake for different reasons. Some had bad experience when ther were young,someone scared them,and it stays for ever.

Believe me most snake are harmless,boa,ball python corn snake and so on.I raise snake for 20 years. The question would be why are afraid of snakes???

I love snakes!!! they are so awsome looking!!! why be afraid of them when they are more afraid of you, unless you have a phobia like i do of mosquitoes.
I freak out when they start buzzing around me... hehe.

im not afraid of snakes they are beautiful... my husband and i happily own many snakes and love each of them... they are very unique animals
