I have a 2001 Hyundai sonata and it started to shake when i either step on the brake or the excel. I took it to midas and they said it is because of spark wire and they recommended a replacement (also said something about hard excess to the wire because it is underneath the engine. they have to take the engine and change it)
overall it will cost $600. is this reasonable price ?

Bull Corn! take it to the Hyundai Shop for a second opinion. I think shaking during braking may be something else. Warped brake rotor? Besides rough engine running will cause a check engine light. And there is no way spark plug wire set installed would cost that much. Might be a worn CV joint in the front axle. Your Hyundai guys are going to be able to tell you just what it is going to fix that problem. Or a very knowledgable Tech. that knows Hyundai

I would get another opinion from a reputable general repair shop or even the service department at your local Hyundai dealership. Try to take your car to a shop that specializes in the problem your having,(Midas for exhaust or brakes) or find a good general automotive repair shop to develop a standing relationship.
That said, nothing in your question sounds reasonable to me. Plug wires under the engine? Engine removal for a tune-up? $600.00 for a tune-up!!? Generally, faulty plug wires do not cause issues under breaking. Hope this helps.

If I were you I would take it to the manufacturing dealership and have them investigate it there may even be a recall for it. You could check the web for recalls. But I would just take it to a hyundai dealership and let them at least tell you what they think it is. Don't always trust the midas touch!

I would say it probably nedds spark plugs and wires. I would get a second opinion on the price though. Can't cost that much to replace. Can't
